So Should You Use Linux

For everyday tasks, like email, browsing the internet, editing simple documents, arranging pictures, etc, the answer is definitely yes. (The answer is yes for database and software development, running servers and many other things too, but that is irrelevant now.) If you don’t have many Windows dependent applications to run, or are happy to try free alternatives; if you care for freedom in general and/or for openness, privacy, control, security; or just want to participate in something great; you should at least give Linux a try. You will like it. I promise.

The following chapters will give you a general idea of how and what. While you might not like the choice of distro, many the instructions should remain valid even if you decide to go with a derivative. So it’s really only up to your taste.
